A substantial review of Orthodox By Design, by Oz Frankel, has appeared in the journal, Topia: Canadian Journal of Cultural Studies (Vol. 25, 2011, pp.265-8). There is no e-version of the journal, so you need to ask your local library to subscribe (a worthwhile effort, it's an outstanding journal). You can read more information about the journal here.
Orthodox By Design has been reviewed in the journal, "Material Religion: The Journal of Art, Objects, and Belief" (Vol. 7, No. 2, July 2011, pp.284-5). The review was written by Jenna Weissman Joselit, and it is available here (you need to be a subscriber to read the e-version of the review; check with your institutional library, and if they don't currently subscribe, request it -- it's a great journal!).
Orthodox By Design has been reviewed (by Don Seeman) in the April 2011 edition (Vol.35, No.1) of AJS Review, the flagship journal of the Association of Jewish Studies. You can find a link to the review here (a subscription is needed to read the full article).
A review of Orthodox By Design has just appeared in the March/April edition of "Books and Culture." The article, written by Lauren F. Winner, reviews OBD alongside Maya Katz's The Visual Culture of Chabad (Cambridge University Press, 2010). You can read an excerpt of the review here (for the full review, you need to subscribe to the magazine; it's also available via various library e-collections, so check to see if your local library subscribes).
As I have just learned, a review of Orthodox By Design appeared in The Jewish Journal of Sociology, written by Simcha Fishbane (vol.52, 2010, pp.75-78). Unfortunately, this periodical is not available electronically, so interested readers should consult with their local library for gaining access.
The University of California Website is now featuring a free on-line version of Chapter 1 of Orthodox By Design (but without the endtnotes, it seems). You can find the chapter here(just click on the "Read an Excerpt" link on the right side of the page).
